VAT Counsel
At Aegon’s global head office in The Hague (Schiphol as of mid 2025), the position has become vacant for a VAT Counsel. He/she will be part of the tax team consisting of 9 professionals. In this role as a VAT Counsel, you will be responsible for the VAT position of the Dutch Aegon operations, i.e. the Head Office and the Dutch Aegon Asset Management (AAM) operations and have oversight of Aegon’s VAT positions abroad. You will work with, and provide tax technical advice to, the other functions of the global head office such as finance, treasury, legal, and the AAM business in the Netherlands and will maintain contacts with external stakeholders and external advisors.
Since you have a clear view on the intercompany transactions, you will be involved with certain transfer pricing activities. Also other roles and responsibilities can be discussed next to the VAT role.
More specifically the tasks and responsibilities include:
- Acting as the Dutch VAT expert of the Group Tax team, proactively sharing your know-how and views within the organization;
- Driving all VAT processes of the Dutch operations, including controls;
- Providing tax technical advice and analysis on various Dutch VAT issues;
- Maintaining contacts with external advisors and stakeholders such as industry representation groups and the Dutch tax authorities;
- Assisting with transfer pricing work (e.g., local file, master file & CbCr) with the broader Group Tax team.

Candidate
You are a highly skilled tax professional who enjoys working together with people having different professional and cultural backgrounds. Your analytical and communication skills are excellent. You are pragmatic, positive and eager to learn. You have the ability to make a positive and cooperative connection with people across the globe and as a result contribute to the success of the Group Tax team.
Moreover, you have the following qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Dutch tax law or fiscal economics
- At least 5 years of VAT experience
- Your have worked for large accounting firms, law firms, or in house at large international companies (preferably) within the Financial Services sector
- Solid understanding of business principles, allowing to assess impact of contemplated actions also beyond their tax effect
- Fluent written and spoken English and Dutch is required
- Good sense of humor.
